As Plato already knew, in every era of human history the „rugged" and male archetype was a popular and a indisputably decisive personality form.
Without the infrastructure and technology available to us today, men were required to “submit” themselves to nature, both physically and psychologically, in order to provide for their own and their families.
In the life of this archetype, everything fulfills a definite, direct and immediate purpose. These men are fearless, uncompromising and have a clear goal in life - and this aspiration is also reflected in their clothing.
It is a good thing that all men, by virtue of their biological constitution, possess these basic qualities - but unfortunately the fashion industry has developed the strange habit of "designing" against each man's natural constitution, which unfortunately also rubs off on the natural attitude of some men.
Reason enough for us to focus even more on the masculine elements of every look and place these in the center of our autumn / winter collection.
Thus, our motto of the season is called: Masculine Refinement!
As you probably already know as a loyal customer, the sartorial look has always been based on military uniforms. Stylish icons like Carry Grant saw them as the pinnacle of menswear - young Cary Grant was impressed by the fact that soldiers exuded masculinity because of their uniform and thus received a special form of recognition from the female gender.
The uniform not only conveyed an advantageous physique, but also masked flaws or drew attention to the merits of the male silhouette.
You guessed it already, the classic look of the gentlemen – which we propagate and appreciate season after season - already contains a priori all necessary ingredients to promote the masculine elegance.
Particularly with regard to the functional component of clothing, there are also other parallels that come into play in the interplay of "Sartorial meets rough & authentic elements".
This is why this season we are concentrating on traditional clothing, which finds its inspiration especially in the Gentry style.
By Gentry, we especially mean the country gentry in the UK, which places as much importance on the function of the clothing as on its look.
Cotton or tweed pants; flannel shirts; wool sock caps; heavy wool coats and jackets; leather belts, leather jackets, suspenders and boots; and simple, natural colors with few patterns make for an eloquent and masculine appearance. The collection consists of materials and fabrics that can withstand daily use and nature and are processed by our suppliers in unparalleled craftsmanship.
The function never follows the form - even if the function is a bit more subtle than what is easily apparent.
Elements such as full body movement and freedom of movement are just as relevant as underlining the physical stature.
Back then, when men spent most of their time outside, sturdy materials such as shearling, heavy wool fabrics and various types of leather were predestined for survival and these elements can be found in perfect processing in our collection.
MJ's personal highlight is the RAF Chapal bomber jacket worn by the Royal Air Force during World War II. Its comfort and sturdiness are legendary, turning any man into a cool daredevil like Steve McQueen, Marlon Brando or Jean-Paul Belmondo.
Further highlights are to be found especially in the product world of Drake's - and here we can proudly say that we are the strongest partner shop in whole Europe. Hand-printed scarves and pocket squares, winter ties and, of course, the ever-popular Shacket, form the perfect foundation for your "sturdy" casual appearance and not only dominate the smart casual look of every gentleman, but also ensure a dominate appearance.
In the sartorial area, the exclusive combination of Michael Jondral, Fox Brothers and Orazio Luciano is another personal highlight. Finest lambs wool from South West England meets pure handcrafted Neapolitan sprezzatura, which Steve McQueen already appreciated as a protagonist in the "Thomas Crown Affair" - ideal for traveling and a masculine appearance.
